Panthéon |
Pantheon was originally built as a church in the 1700s to honour Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris.
The construction for the Neo-Classic style church began in 1764 and took about 26 years to complete. However, during the French Revolution it became a burial site for French notables. Under Napoleon it became a church again, however today it is a Pantheon again where you can find the tombs/crypt of famous people such as Emile Zola, Voltaire, Victor Hugo and Marie Curie.
The building is shaped as a Cross and a dome comes out of its center. You can take about 425 stairs up to the dome to witness a beautiful view of the city.
After visiting Pantheon you can hang around St. Michel or stroll through the Luxumbourg Gardens.
