Located along the Seine River overlooking The Louvre Museum, there is an interesting history behind Musée d'Orsay.  Once a rail station serving Paris-Orléans, known as Gare d'Orsay, it was shut down in 1939.  Musee d'Orasy re-opened as a museum in 1989.  Many of the art works presented at Musee d'Orsay were brought over form The Louvre.

Inside you can find great important paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and furniture from 1848 to 1914.  The wonderful work of some famous painters such as Van Gogh, Renoir and Monet can be viewed in this museum.

You can buy Orsay Museum tickets online.

If you're not the typical museum person..., Jul 05, 2005

this may be the museum for you! The architecture of the museum itself is very beautiful and unique, having been an old train station. If you are into photography, you will find the building itself quite interesting for photos. When we were there, all of the printed information on each piece of art was in French so either learn French or take someone with you who knows it! The outside area around the museum has some great sculptures and is nice for people watching as well as photographs.
