Atmosphere Good, Price/Value Poor, Feb 21, 2008

If your dining experience is not based on the food, but on the locale, then Barlotti is the perfect restaurant for you.
I, however, believe that a good to great (i.e. memorable) restaurant must provide competent service, quality food (prepared and selected), good presentation at a fair cost.
Barlotti fails at almost all 3. If you are trendy and don't care then eat here. If you are looking for a memorable dining experience look elsewhere.
Peeves: dry veal. expensive drinks (10 EU for a CAN of beer). clumsy staff - twice the waiter struck one of my guests in the head. undercooked lamb. order errors.
Pluses: sound system - your conversation was the only one you could hear! atmosphere - very nice look. chairs were comfortable.

A disappointment, Jul 03, 2007
reviewer: Anonymous from Madison, WI USA
The food at Barlotti was good, above average level compared to what you could buy in the states, however, the service was abysmal!

The waiter actually dropped two shrimp off an appetizer plate, still served the plate, went and told the host what he'd done, the host then came, told us he'd noticed a problem, took the plate, and rearranged the 4 shrimp remaining on the plate so they were symetrically arranged, and gave the same plate back, rather than taking it back to the kitchen and correcting the problem.

We were seated in what we were told was the nonsmoking section, however, people still lingering from earlier in the day were allowed to smoke in the section.

We were also seated directly under a speaker which was so loud we couldn't hear, we'd requested to either be moved or have it turned down. It was turned down for about 5 minutes and then back up.

Overall, though the food was good, the service and the atmosphere were the worst we encountered in Paris.
