Arc-de-Triomphe, one of the most beautiful monuments in Paris, is located at Place d'Étoile where twelve major streets meet.
The construction of this masterpiece began in 1806 by the order of Napoleon to honour his Grand Army after their victory at the Battle of d'Austerliz. After some delays the Arc-de-Triomphe was completed in 1836. Each four large beautiful relief sculptures on the Arc tell a story: Marseillaise or the departure of the volunteers, Peace, Resistance, and the Triumph of 1810. All around and inside Arc-de-Triomphe you can read the names of the Napoleon's victorious wars, as well as the name of some Generals.
Since 1920, in order to honour the soldiers of the World War I, this 50 meter high arch became the house of the tomb of an unknown soldier.
Inside the Arc-de-Triomphe is a small museum dedicated to the history of this monument. You can also get to the roof top of the arch (50 meters above ground) from inside for a nice view of the city.
